A gorgeous family, the beach, and a football. I rarely have the chance to photograph older kids like these two. It was nice to be able to direct them a bit, but mostly I just had fun capturing them being boys.
A Family Shoot at My Home
I was just thinking that I'd love to photograph a red-haired baby when this beautiful 6-month-old munchkin's mom called me. Hooray! Their house is currently being renovated, so we decided to shoot at my home. I think that with babies, it's especially nice to begin a shoot indoors in softer light, away from the elements. It makes for lovely, intimate portraits.
I'm limited in my outdoor shooting space now, thanks to our monstrous pool fence, but we made do just fine. And despite a serious teething spell (see drool below), this guy is as good-natured as they come.

Maternity Photos in Newport Beach
This was a dream shoot. Sloane possesses the poise and body awareness of an experienced model. And she's a non-profit executive, so she's smart and kind-hearted to boot! And Kevin couldn't be more charming. This is one super baby in the making.
New Baby & Family Photos in Glendale
This family's style is gorgeous and (I think) effortless. Those mini polk-a-dots photographed extra beautifully. That old black bench flanked by potted succulents is a California holiday card begging to happen. And with an innocent glance, little Tuesday's baby blues can take your breath away.
Second Baby Maternity Photos
I met Paula at Mommy and Me class when our boys were six months old. She struck me as effortlessly gorgeous (the best kind) in her yoga leggings and ponytail. She's also quadra-lingual, Brazilian, and an actress. I knew she'd make a great subject.
Needless to say, I was thrilled when she requested a maternity shoot at her Tudor-style home, from which they'll soon be moving. I cherish childhood photos where I can see details of our old houses. These backdrops and details provide otherwise forgotten context for the various stages of our lives. This is one reason I love to document families in their homes.
On a side note, these photos are an excellent example of why getting your hair professionally done for family photos is a GREAT idea.
Baby Girl Photos - Something Different
Of all the many babies I've photographed in the last year, only two of them were girls. I can't explain it. When I learned that my sister would be having a baby girl (after two boys), I knew I wanted to celebrate her girl-ness in photos, both because it was a fun opportunity for me to do something different, and because she would be the first girl in our family in a very long time.
Once I met Baby Lane, I decided that flowers had to be involved. I've always had a thing for Dutch paintings, specifically the very realistic botanical still life ones with dark backgrounds and soft window light. So this Rachel Ruysch painting became my inspiration.
New Baby Shoot at La Familia Ranch
I met Mark and Reanna two years ago when they were looking for wedding venues. We were honored to host their BIG day at La Familia Ranch and so excited to meet sweet baby Robinson! They've become an honorary La Familia familia!
Fall Frolic in the Avocado Grove
We don't get to enjoy much Fall foliage here in California. But thankfully there's no shortage of fruit trees dropping their leaves! My nephews Grant & Brooks, East Coasters by birth, had a blast frolicking in the avocado groves at La Familia Ranch.
A Newborn at La Familia Ranch
These photos are extra special to me because they show some of very favorite people in one of my very favorite places: my sister Abby, Baby Lane, and La Familia!
